AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Investigators say evidence indicates the Auburn University football player killed in December at an apartment complex was armed and exchanged gunfire with the man now charged with the murder of the AU football player.

Chief Register with Auburn Police Department confirmed that one of their detectives testified in Tallapoosa County Monday for a probation revocation for Markel Hart, 22.

Hart is charged in Auburn with the murder of Auburn University football player Jakell Mitchell, 18. In the probation revocation hearing Monday, the Auburn detective testified regarding the Dec. 14 murder.

Investigators discovered evidence that indicated Mitchell and Hart were both armed with guns and exchanged gunfire at that Auburn apartment complex.

The detective testified there was enough probable cause to arrest Hart and charge him with the murder of Mitchell.
