Eddy Middle School goes green for MLK service project

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Some local students are getting a valuable lesson about how to keep their city beautiful.

Today, youth at Eddy Middle School gave back to their community and learned why it's so important.

The "Eddy Generals Go Green" club members partnered with city organizations to help beautify their environment, doing everything from planting to cleaning.

"With everything it's all about service. The kids have to understand that part of what they do everyday is give back by these two organizations coming in and assisting us today it gives them a chance to see what a difference serving others can make and how that includes the environment as a whole," Shermaine Derrick said, Principal of Eddy Middle School.

This is all part of a series of area events related to Martin Luther King service projects.
