COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A man accused in a double shooting that left one man dead appeared in Recorder's Court on Saturday morning.

Bernard Gibson faces multiple charges including murder and aggravated assault.

The shooting took place Jan. 7 on Calvin Avenue. Cousins Gerald Hightower Jr. and Kaminski Robinson were both shot. Hightower later died at Midtown Medical Center.

Gibson's family and friends came to support him in court.

"You know these kids are young, you know a lot of stuff's being put on them that's not true," said family friend Valeria Epps. "So I just wanted to know that people take time, I know his mother Ron, so I just wanted to take to let people know they need to do a full investigation before they say someone's guilty."

Judge Julius hunter presided over the case and said Gibson has a prior conviction for burglary.

There was no bond set, and the case was continued until January 22.
