PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Alabama's Distinguished Young Woman of 2015 has been crowned, and the winner is Bria Kalpen of Phenix City, Ala.

High school seniors from across Alabama hit the stage at Frazer United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 17, all vying for this year's title.

The ladies competed in different categories during competition including scholastics, interview, fitness, self-expression and talent.

Kalpen says the program has been a positive experience for her.

"This program is so great. This has been one of the greatest experiences that I have had," Kalpen said. "We've been here... This is the ninth day that we've been here and I have gotten so close to the girls. We're in separate groups. I've made some of the best friends in my group and outside of my group and I'm just so glad that I got a chance to be a part of this program because it has been the most fun I've had. It's been a blast."

Bria won $8,000 in scholarship money in addition to other awards won throughout the preliminary rounds and final program.

She also gets a place at the national competition in June in Mobile, Ala.
