LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The Lee County Commission reviewed potential changes to a county noise ordinance they've been discussing with residents for the past several months.
On Monday, commissioners discussed two drafts of the ordinance that would affect the unincorporated parts of the county.
The main concern commissioners have is defining "excessive noise." The ordinance talks about measuring noise levels in decibels and authorities expressed concerns of the subjectivity of the process.
The decibel meter devices would have to be calibrated correctly to see whether the cost of enforcing the ordinance is worth the results.
The ordinance is civil and not criminal and would result in a fine for violators instead of incarceration.
No final decisions were made at the work session Monday. Possible changes will be discussed at the next scheduled work session.
