COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus city manager Isiah Hughley says the city hopes to "fast-track" the process to get a company in place quickly to run the city's aquatic center.
The city council canceled its contract with USA Pools - the company previously running the center- Tuesday night after several complaints about management and issues like chlorine levels in pools.
They gave them 90 days' notice of cancellation with the parks and rec department running the facility in the meantime.
City officials say they will expedite the process of getting in bids from new companies over the next 15 days and hope to send recommendations to council over the next few weeks.
"We will continue to work diligently and in partnership with USA Pools while they still maintain occupancy in the building to provide service," said Director of Parks and Recreation, James Worsley, Ph.D. "No interruptions in services to the public. As of this morning when I have a conversation with Mr. Larry, He informed me that the swim meet is still ago as today."
The swim meet he mentioned is the Hurricanes Groundhog Invitational on Friday at the Aquatic Center.
