LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) – Troup County School System received a donation from MOBIS to enhance students' learning opportunities in reading, career pathways and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The donation totaled $18,275.75 and of this amount $6,687.75 will continue supporting the Partners in Reading program at Callaway, Hillcrest, Hogansville and West Point Elementary schools.
This year, readers at Berta Weathersbee and Whitesville Road are also beneficiaries.
The Partners in Reading contribution will be used to help purchase books and obtain prizes and supplies for Accelerated Reader programs.
"We firmly believe that a good educational foundation begins with strong reading skills and MOBIS immensely enjoys being able to further that effort," Marshall Murray stated, MOBIS' Sr. Manager of General Administration and EHS.
Also, $3,000 is allocated to purchase lab equipment for all three high schools. Equipment such as Rotational Inertia Demonstrators, Human Dynamic Carts, Coin and Feather Demonstrators and other lab equipment as needed.
This equipment will increase STEM learning and soft skills used to work in a team environment.
The remaining $8,000 will finance awareness visits for eighth grade student to MOBIS and THINC College and Career Academy.
Increasing middle school students' awareness of adult professions can help them decide if they are interested in pursuing Mechatronics or STEM related pathways once they enter high school.
