EUFAULA, AL (WTVM) - A $50,000 grant announced by Gov. Robert Bentley will ensure that the Playground of Dreams in Eufaula, Ala. will receive the upgrades needed to provide a safe place for children to play and dream for many years to come.
The city will use the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to replace deteriorating wooden play structures with new, more durable equipment.
The renovation will include more ground-level play features that will be accessible by children of all ages and abilities.
The city also will refurbish an adjacent picnic area, adding new benches and grills.
"Playgrounds and parks serve an important community role by enabling children to enjoy the outdoors, get exercise and learn important social skills," Bentley said. "I commend Eufaula officials for ensuring that this playground will continue to be enjoyed by children and their families."
Congress created the LWCF program in 1964 to assist states with the development and preservation of outdoor recreational facilities.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant. ADECA manages an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley notified Mayor Jack Tibbs that the grant had been approved. Eufaula is contributing $50,000 in matching funds toward the project.
