COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – In 2012 more than 136,000 children all across the country were treated for burns.
Capt. Paula Carter with Columbus Fire and EMS suggests these tips to help prevent injuries and to keep children out of the ER:
Childproof electrical outlets
Check water temperature
Install smoke alarms
Install carbon monoxide alarms
Put safety gates around the fireplace
It is also recommended that you push pots on the stove back so children cannot burn themselves when they touch the stove when reaching for the handle.
