PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - There's been a big turnout with lines around a local fast food restaurant to help a Phenix City teenager.
The event is called "a Heart for Miranda," named for 14-year-old Miranda Spurlin, who collapsed in her Phenix City home last December and desperately needs a new healthy heart.
The Chick-Fil-A on U.S. Highway 280 in Phenix City across from Wal-Mart has been donating a portion of purchases to Miranda and her family since early Friday morning. The fundraiser continues until 10 p.m. Friday night, and all you have to do is let them know that you want to support the Spurlin family.
"I have been overwhelmed. I had no idea, that just not the amount of people that would come to Chick-fil-A, but the people who stopped with all the well-wishers," said Miranda's aunt Carmen French. "The outpouring from the community has been amazing."
Miranda Spurlin is now in the children's hospital at UAB in Birmingham waiting for a new heart.
You can also help the family by donating at any local Wells Fargo bank.
