Third SPLOST public forum held

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A big crowd showed up to listen and ask questions Tuesday night about a potential new tax to help local schools.

This public forum was the third of 11 before Muscogee County residents vote March 17 on the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, which would add one percent to your purchases.

There was unique interest in Tuesday night's location at Spencer High School because SPLOST is slated to help build a new school to replace the current building, which Muscogee County's superintendent says has severe water damage and a shifting foundation.

Still, those opposed to the tax believe an audit needs to be conducted.
