AL residents cross state line in hopes to win the Powerball

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The jackpot for tonight's drawing has climbed to an estimated $500 million dollars.

Some states don't offer lottery which is why people from Alabama are crossing the state line into Georgia in hopes of getting their hands on the winning ticket.

"I live in Alabama, I come over to Georgia to play the lottery to win extra money; sometimes it's hard to win but I'm still fighting and try to get it," Charlie Melton said.

The prize would be the third largest in the history of the game and fifth largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

We will have the winning lottery numbers for you tonight on News Leader 9 at 11 p.m.
