COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - If you are a motivated, smart, physically fit member of a minority group, the Columbus Police Department wants you.
The department has 26 openings for new officers and wants to maintain and build on their already diverse police force.
It's a tremendous opportunity and one not to be overlooked.
The job pays a decent wage, from $36,000 to $40,000 to start depending on your level of education.
The police department's hiring campaign uses the slogan "join the force for good."
Among the department's recent hires are five women, who will bring their life experience and unique abilities to the force.
All police officers need to have great people skills. After all, they interact with a wide variety of people in situations that can range from the most mundane to the most stressful.
The department also wants and needs more minority recruits so that our entire racially diverse community will have officers they can identify with and relate to.
By encouraging minorities to apply, the Columbus Police Department is doing the right thing to make joining the force 'for good' more than just a slogan.
We encourage their efforts and we encourage you to apply.
A well-rounded, sensitive, smart and forward-looking police department can handle crime and make our community an even better place to live!
