COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – It's Fat Tuesday in the U.S., and a few local New Orleans-style restaurants are hosting Mardi Gras-themed specials and menus in Columbus.

Henry's on 13th St. in Columbus is hosting 'Mardi Gras in Midtown,' which started at 11 a.m. and the party lasts until 10 p.m. The event includes a mask and costume contest.

"[It] seems like Columbus has accepted coming here knowing we might be upbeat as far as the spices, and I'm glad to be here," Chef Henry Hampton, of Henry's, said.

Café Le Rue on Airport Thruway is offering New Orleans classics with new twists, with a gumbo with shrimp, sausage and alligator.
