COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - According to local weather forecasts, temperatures are expected to be below freezing Thursday and Friday morning.

The Muscogee County School District administrators are making preparations to open school doors at least 30 minutes early to ensure supervision of students in case of early arrivals and to prevent them from being out in the cold.

They have taken proactive measures to ensure buses and schools are heated and operational. Parents are encouraged not to leave their children unattended at bus stops or schools.

Parents are also encouraged to make sure children are dressed in appropriate clothing for cold temperatures and wind. For students who may normally walk to and from school, parents are encouraged to make transportation arrangements.

MCSD will monitor the weather forecasts and roadways as well. Please continue to check your emails, phones and weather reports for updates.
