American Red Cross of W. GA to honor 'Everyday Heroes'

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The American Red Cross of West Central Georgia will be honoring eight Everyday Heroes from our area who have gone above and beyond in their service to others and the community. 

The event will take place at an event, the Heroes Breakfast on March 24 at 7:30 a.m. at the St. Luke Ministry Center.

If you know someone we should honor please nominate online at www.redcross.org/ga/columbus, or print and complete the form found here and mail it in or drop it by the chapter office at 3940 Rosemont Drive. 

Nominees must reside or work in Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Muscogee, Stewart, Talbot, Quitman, Webster, Taylor, Schley, Macon, Dooly, Crawford, Peach, Pulaski, Bleckley, Dodge, Laurens, Treutlen and Johnson counties.

Tickets to the breakfast are available online or at the Red Cross chapter office.

The deadline for nominations is March 6.

Categories for heroes are:

  • Disaster Relief Hero: An individual who exhibited heroic efforts in response to a natural disaster or emergency situation, providing relief to victims. 
  • Emergency Response Hero: A professional or volunteer medical assistant who exhibited heroism either in response to an emergency situation or through an ongoing commitment to the community and profession. 
  • Fire Rescue: A professional or volunteer firefighter who acted above and beyond the call of duty, exhibiting heroism either in response to an emergency situation or through an ongoing commitment to the community. 
  • Good Samaritan Hero: An individual who courageously and selflessly responded to an unusual, significant, or unexpected crisis. 
  • Guardian Angel Hero: An individual who created a lasting change in the life of a child or children by being a mentor and guide to ensure a bright future and transformation for the youth. 
  • Military Hero: An active, reserve, or retired member of the Armed Forces or ROTC who acted above and beyond the call of duty, exhibiting heroism either in response to an emergency situation or through an ongoing commitment to the community and profession. 
  • Law Enforcement Hero: A professional police officer or related law enforcement official who acted above and beyond the call of duty, exhibiting heroism either in response to an emergency situation or through an ongoing commitment to the community and profession. 
  • Paving the Way Youth Award: An individual of under 18 years of age who selflessly responded to a crisis situation and/or worked toward making a difference in our world.
