Headquarter Nissan gives Columbus an electric charging station

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The newest car charging station in Uptown Columbus is now open to the public and for a short time it's free!

Headquarter Nissan has awarded the city a new Nissan DC Quick Charger, which is a high-speed, electric-vehicle charger.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday morning. Charging is free through the weekend and then starting Monday, it will cost $5 an hour.

Terry Bell with Headquarter Nissan says gas powered engines will soon be a thing of the past.

The charging station is located at the intersection of Broadway and 11th Street.

The city hopes to install more stations in the future.
