COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus father of two was arrested and charged on Monday after police say he fled a traffic stop and exited the car as it was moving.

According to a Columbus Police Department incident report, John Cook, 29, was arrested after he fled a traffic stop and later left his vehicle moving to elude police on foot.

During the incident, police said Cook left the car as it was running while his children, aged five and two, were inside. The car was stopped by a tree before falling down a steep embankment. It is unclear if the children were injured.

After he was detained, officers found 4.3 grams of marijuana, valued at $43, on Cook.

Cook was charged with two counts of second-degree family violence cruelty to children and one count of fleeing to elude police, reckless driving, misdemeanor obstruction, driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana.
