COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Calvary Christian School (CCS) hosted 10 students and 11 adults from A+ Learning Center in Beijing, China, on Monday, Feb. 22.
The visitors were greeted by the headmaster, all principals, and the high school counselor. The students ranged from six to 16 years old.
They had the opportunity to receive a tour of the CCS campus and shadowed a classroom for their age group.
The purpose of the visit to Calvary was to provide a time for the students to experience a typical school day and gain insight into what a student experiences within the American Christian school setting.
Many of these students will choose to come to the United States to attend high school and will live in host homes. The general purpose is to promote an educational and cultural understanding where students return to their home country upon completion and their secondary education, and return to China to use what they have learned in the United States.
CCS also sees this as an opportunity for current students to interact, experience, and gain understanding of other cultures, broadening their social horizons.
"Calvary Christian School is committed to prepare our students with the awareness and skills to impact the world," explained Dr. Ricky Smith, CCS Headmaster. "Our world continues to grow smaller, as we are more easily connected to the globe. By giving our students the opportunity to interact with other cultures, we shape their view of the world in which they live. Our strategic partnership with A+ Learning Center in China is one way we accomplish this mission. We are excited at how this relationship will continue to develop over time."
Calvary Christian School is a K3-12th grade school and offers the following: biblical instruction, challenging academics, AP and Honor classes, dual enrollment, fine arts, athletics, extracurricular activities, and before and after school care.
