COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – After a successful 14 year coaching career at Auburn High, Tim Carter has been named head football coach at Fairhope.

Ironically, Carter and the man he's replacing at Fairhope, Coach Adam Winegarden, are switching roles, as Winegarden replaces Carter at Auburn.

News Leader 9's Elizabeth White sat down with coach carter at his home Friday.

"Be consistent you are going to have pitfalls in your life and things are going to get in your way, keep your chin up and don't give up, keep battling and know there is a greater purpose in all we do and if you have faith it will fulfill itself in time," Carter said.

That same sentiment served Carter and his family well, when he explains Auburn school leaders wanted a change, leading to his resignation in January.

Carter continued,”I made it clear I wanted to stay another year, so it is not our plan, I respect the people that made the decision and it's worked out well for us.”

Carter will soon move to Fairhope to begin his job as head coach and AD.

“This has really opened up a door for us I mean we have always wanted to retire in Fairhope and I think God had a great plan he just let us sit back and watch it unfold,” he says.

His daughter and wife will stay in Auburn, until she finishes her senior year.

“That's how much we think of the Auburn school system, so we will be long distance for a while, my wife and I will be like high school sweethearts again on the phone until we can all be together,” Carter stated.

His record at Auburn is 84 and 25; he reached the playoffs each season. Carter's success on Friday nights is not what he will remember.

“The championships and the success we have had on the field, it was fulfilling, but more so is the way the boys developed pride and worked together and still hope they find so much to be proud of what we did at Auburn High School and they will always be proud to have it be their alma mater.
