Higher demand for cosmetic surgery

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Plastic surgery is more popular now than ever before.

A new study from The American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows the amount of cosmetic surgeries performed over the years is growing rapidly.

“It's just becoming more accepting,” said Rachel Harper of Augusta Plastic Surgery.

From fuller lips, to body lifts, you name it, plastic surgery seems to be the new plan for bodily enhancements.

“They're happier with themselves as a person just making those changes," said Harper. "They're still themselves, just improving themselves.”

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released its annual plastic surgery procedural statistics, reporting that 15.6 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States in 2014. That is 3% higher than procedures performed in 2013.

“They're not scared, it's not taboo," said Harper. "Before, no one would talk about it. So, it's in the media more, you hear about it with celebrities.”

Celebrities like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Rhianna has charmed more than just a nice smile and major hits around the world. It's their gorgeous figures that many idolize, which plays a major role in this growing sensation.

“You're going to go get your hair done, your nails done this is just something a little bit more serious, but it makes all the difference in the world,” said Harper.

Thanks to technology developing over the years, it's possible to get just about anything done. With growing augmentations over the past year, between rear-end lifts and silicone implants, Hunter said it's hard to say which one has a higher demand.

“We do a lot of breast augmentations and reductions," said Harper. "So we go both ways, but increasing in popularity would have to be the Brazilian butt lifts."

At the end of the day, Harper said cosmetic surgery is all about making a person feel good. If anyone is considering any cosmetic procedures, do your homework, learn about the procedures, and don't shop for prices, search for a certified surgeon that's going to get the job done.

According to The American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), in its annual plastic surgery procedural statistics, 15.6 million cosmetic procedures, including both minimally-invasive and surgical, were performed in the United States in 2014, an increase of 3 percent since 2013.
