WHINSEC holds change of responsibility ceremony

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - There is now new leadership at Fort Benning.

The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, or WHINSEC, held a change of responsibility ceremony Monday.

Command Sergeant Major Carlos Olvera will relinquish his responsibilities as the Institute's Command Sergeant Major to Sergeant Major Abel Tavera.

Tavera, born in the Dominican Republic, came to the U.S. when he was 11 and spoke no English back then. He says he's amazed of how far he's come since then.

The spouses of the incoming and outgoing commanders were also given a bouquet of flowers for their support to their husbands.

WHINSEC was found in 1946 and provides military training to government personnel in U.S.-allied Latin American nations.
