PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (WTVM) - The community came together for a barking good cause on Tuesday, March 10 in Pine Mountain, Ga.
The 7th annual Puttin' on the Dog Luncheon was held Tuesday afternoon at The Lodge and Spa at Callaway Gardens.
A large crowd turned out for a fashion show that featured adoptable dogs from the Humane Society of Harris County on the runway, as well as a special live auction and vendors.
Organizer Martha Diamond says the luncheon is more than about just raising money.
"It's not just adopting dogs," Diamond explained. "It's educating people on how to take care of their dogs, the medical needs they have, their shots, and how to train them."
The Humane Society of Harris County's Helping Hounds program, which is a collaboration between the HSHC and the Youth Detention Center in Muscogee County, was also highlighted at the luncheon.
Helping Hounds is a training program for shelter dogs and a pet-facilitated therapy program for at-risk youth. Since it began in March 2011, 37 dogs and approximately 25 youth have participated in the program.
The funds raised at the event will benefit the HSHC.
