Affordable Care Act could affect 2015 taxes

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Two organizations team up to educate folks on how the Affordable Care Act could affect them this tax season.

Valley Healthcare System and Liberty Tax Service organized the educational forum aimed at telling taxpayers what they need to know about new forms and tax penalties related to the healthcare law. Attendees also learned about a special enrollment period for those who have already paid the penalty for not having healthcare coverage.

"They need to know or bring with them something to help them or me calculate their 2015 income. They also need to have social security numbers and birthdays for everybody in their family that wants to get insurance," says Terry Butler, of Valley Healthcare System, Inc.

Organizers say those who haven't signed up for 2015 health coverage may still be able to enroll in Marketplace insurance between March 15 and April 30.
