COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - People turned out on March 19 to take advantage of free health screenings.
The free health fair took place Thursday afternoon at the Fox Community Center on 5th Avenue in Columbus.
People who live in the North Highland area were able to get such things as their blood pressure and blood sugar checked.
A free raffle was also held at the health fair.
The fair was hosted by Mercy Med, a faith-based medical facility that assists low or no income residents.
It was done to honor the memory of former patient and community member Ronnie Allen.
"Ronnie's story was very compelling to us," explained organizer Billy Holbrook. "Before he passed away he said he wanted to send everybody to come down to Mercy Med. We did not have a chance to do that so we wanted to bring Mercy Med to the neighborhood, and we were able to do that through great partnerships from the neighborhood as well as community partners."
Organizers say they hope to have more events like this in the future.
