RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Russell County Emergency Management hosted a special fair aimed at helping families prepare for emergencies.
The fair was held Saturday morning at the Piggly Wiggly on Highway 280.
Those who attended learned from emergency responders about the benefits of being prepared in the wake of a disaster and got a firsthand look at the equipment often used to save lives.
"What we do is we try to plan these events to get the public some information on how to prepare for a disaster," explained Bob Franklin, Director of Emergency Management. "No matter what kind of disaster it is and what they can do to get themselves ready and how to get a kit together and plus it gives them an opportunity to come down and look at the equipment and the response personnel, meet those people and get to know them before a disaster hits."
People were also given an opportunity to examine preparedness products and take home free information.
