COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Diabetes affects millions of Americans nationwide, but sometimes it can be hard to notice in others, especially for law enforcement officers.
Columbus Regional Health and the Muscogee County Sheriff's Department held their second annual Diabetes Alert Day for law enforcement.
The event was a chance for officers to learn how to identify people who appear to be uncooperative but may actually be suffering from a medical emergency including low blood sugar.
Muscogee County Sheriff John Darr says the information given was incredibly important.
The event also taught officers how to properly assess and transition from a confrontation to a medical emergency response.
