COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM/WXTX) - Scott Ressmeyer and the Miracle Riders held their media kick-off  for Scott's Ride for Miracles.

The ride across the country will raise money for children at Midtown Medical Center, will be held in May 1 - May 22.

This is the seventh year they've been doing this and this year at least 30 riders will be taking part to raise money for the Children's Miracle network at Midtown.

To date, they have raised $860,000, and the goal this year is to reach $1 million.

In the past, the money raised has been used to purchase equipment for the hospital. Dr. Joseph Zanga is the Chief of Pediatrics at Midtown and says the children's hospital would not grow without Scott's Ride.

"Because of them we have been able to develop the Children's hospital at Midtown Medical Center. We can't do it without the money they raise," Zanga said. "We can't do it without the publicity they generate for the needs of children in this community."

It's expected to find out how many days Scott and the Miracle Riders will be on the road and just how many states they will ride through this year.

The riders are expected to pull up at the Columbus Regional Conference Center around 10:00 a.m. the big kickoff and before heading out they will tour the NICU, children's hospital and pediatric emergency department.

Each year we follow the riders live on their journey, and it's a lot of fun.
