(WTVM) – Marco's Pizza's National Spinach Day campaign was a huge success!

Thursday, March 26 marked National Spinach Day and anyone who donated a can of spinach received a free grilled chicken florentine pizza.

Organizers said they gave away around 1,500 pizzas during this campaign. Marco's ran out of ingredients around 6 p.m., so they had to compensate customers with vouchers.

An estimated 2,000 cans were collected across the six stores in Columbus and Auburn.

All the canned good collected  were donated to Feeding the Valley while cans collected in Auburn were donated to the East Alabama Food Bank.
