Columbus library hosts The Big Read

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Big Read returned to the Chattahoochee Valley with a celebration of one of the most famous American novels.

The Chattahoochee Valley Libraries welcomed one of the country's most beloved book critics to the area - Maureen Corrigan.

Corrigan recently published a book on F. Scott Fitzgerald and his legendary novel, The Great Gatsby.

Corrigan is famous for her reviews on national Public radio's Fresh Air program. She spoke about why she thinks The Great Gatsby has endured for all these years.

"I think this is a novel that we really look at because it tells us something about what we want to be and whether or not we really really are just fooling yourselves or whether Americas really speaking the truth," says Corrigan.

The Fort Benning Maneuver Center of Excellence Jazz Band performed before the event, which also featured free copies of the Great Gatsby.
