AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The Auburn University family welcomed a renowned author and alum to campus Thursday.
New York Times best-selling author and journalist Ace Atkins delivered the Graduate School's New Horizons Lecture at the Foy Hall Ballroom.
Atkins was a defensive end on the Auburn football team in the early '90s.
Atkins' lecture chronicled his rise from working as a newspaper reporter in Florida to being one of the top crime novelists in the industry. He also offered his advice to those wanting to make a living as a writer.
"You can never take for granted that people out in the field are looking out for you," Atkins said. "You to be aggressive and prepared and know what you are doing at the same time don't expect people to be calling you always be moving and always think about that next step."
The Auburn grad has authored 17 novels and continues to write essays and investigative stories for several national magazines.
