(WTVM) - Russell County officials are working with Bay County, Fla. law enforcement to lower crime in Panama City Beach.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor says checkpoints were set up on Highway 431 leading to Panama City Beach. Taylor says those checkpoints led to the confiscation of two guns, multiple drug seizures, and 11 arrests.

The 11 suspects were arrested on the following charges:

1 Possession of Cocaine

8 Possession of Marijuana

2 Carrying a Concealed Firearm

1 Possession of brass knuckles

2 Fleeing and Eluding

1 Reckless Endangerment

Three subjects were arrested on outstanding warrants. Two suspects were tased as a result of resisting law enforcement.

This comes in the wake of a spring break crackdown following what authorities call a recent rash of violence.

Seven people were injured last weekend, some of them Alabama A&M University students, in a shooting leading to the arrest of a Mobile man.

Sheriff Taylor was assisted by the Alabama Highway Patrol, Russell County Emergency Management and the Metro Narcotics Task Force. Sheriff McKeithen would like to sincerely thank Sheriff Taylor for his assistance.

Additional enforcement activities will be occurring on routes leading to Panama City Beach.
