COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Rangers at Fort Benning are preparing to have their mettle tested in the annual Best Ranger competition.
The 32nd annual David E. Grange Jr. Best Ranger competition is scheduled to begin Friday, April 10.
The 3-day event will pit 51 two-man teams against each other in events that test their physical conditioning, Ranger skills and team strategies.
On Monday, each team put their supplies together for use during the competition including ponchos, compasses, and sleeping bags.
"I could imagine they're all sizing each other up, trying to figure out who the strong guys are who the weak guys are. Just to get their minds in the game. They all pretty much don't really understand what's going into it, but they understand it's going to be grueling for them," says 1st Sgt. Kenya Spraft.
The first event is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on April 10 and the competition will wrap up at approximately 4 p.m. on April 12. A formal award ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on April 13.
