Officer-involved shooting at Valdosta hotel

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The GBI is investigating a fatal officer involved shooting in Lowndes County.

We do know that around 6 p.m. Wednesday two Lowndes County sheriff's deputies were involved in a shooting in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge just off of Saint Augustine Road.

That's near exit 18 on I-75.

One man was killed and two other people were arrested and are in the Lowndes County Jail .

The GBI isn't saying how the three may be connected or whether both deputies fired shots or what led to the shooting.

We are actively investigating the cause of death right now and the manner of death, exactly what happened, and gettin' all the facts and circumstances together here in the parking lot,” said Steve Turner, GBI Special Agent.

Investigators also aren't releasing the names of the deputies yet, but they are on paid leave during the investigation.

Turner said agents will likely be at the scene all night.
