OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) – The East Alabama Medical Center is now one of only two hospitals in the state to become "baby friendly" certified, sponsored by UNICEF and the World Health Organization.
EAMC lactation experts, Cheryl Adams and Anglea Lott provide 24 hour care and support for new moms learning how to breastfeed.
EAMC spent two years making changes and training staff on how to better educate, support and provide confidence for breastfeeding moms.
"This effort has really been an illustration to me and how every one of our nurses and support staff is driven to providing the best care for mothers and babies to improve everybody's experience at our hospital," Dr. Ryan Anglin stated.
EAMC implemented the "Golden Hour" which makes sure that mothers and babies bond immediately after delivery even after a c-section. The baby now goes in recovery with the mom.
Plus, moms are encouraged to be with their babies as much as possible, with as few distractions as possible.
We are amazed at the differences we are already seeing in bonding and breast milk supply and just how well it is going for them and we expect to see even more benefits down the road," Anglea Lott Hamby stated.
