COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Some local high school students were honored Thursday night for committing to serve their country.
The Muscogee County School District held its first annual Military Service Recognition Ceremony at Hardaway High School.
The event honored those 2015 high school graduates who have committed to serving in one of the Armed Forces of our nation after high school.
Event coordinators say the event was as important for the parents as it was for the students.
"There's a good turnout of parents are tonight and parents always like to see their children recognized so I think it is important for them as well," said Lieutenant Colonel Phillip Benefield.
As part of the ceremony, the graduates received a MCSD Certificate of Appreciation from Superintendent of Education Dr. David Lewis.
