Pedestrian hit on J.R. Allen Pkwy early Tuesday

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A pedestrian was taken to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus after being hit by a car on J.R. Allen Parkway early Tuesday morning.

19-year-old Arton Bowen is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries after he sustained what appeared to be a broken leg.

It happened when the man attempted to cross the westbound portion of the highway between Moon Rd. and Veterans Parkway. The vehicle that hit him was a 2010 Chevy Tahoe.

According to Columbus Police, the driver saw Bowen at the last second and the driver swerved and was unable to avoid him. The driver of the car who struck Bowen stopped and called the police.

Police say if you are attempting to cross the road always wear something light or reflective; if you're stuck on a highway or busy stretch of road, you are asked to call someone to pick you up or call police. Never attempt to cross a highway by foot, especially at night.
