Phenix City, Crimson Tide football alum cancels skills camp

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Joel Babb Skills Camp that was scheduled for May 2,2015 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army has been canceled due to low registration numbers.

This football camp prepares players for coaching schemes and features in-depth details on how to develop specific position skills.

"We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. We hope you will respect our decision for calling this in good time. Full refunds have been made. We encourage everyone to stay in contact with us through social media and e-mail for other upcoming events and activities," Coach Babb said.

Babb, who grew up in Phenix City, is now a sought-after trainer who serves and mentors local area coaches, high school teams, and individual athletes as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.

"We are surprised and disappointed that we have to cancel. But the scale and scope of the organization needed to deliver this great camp is substantial and requires a greater level of participation from the area," Coach Babb stated.

His story is filled with all the hopes and dreams of many kids who aspire to play at college, pro level, or just to be a great player for his high school or middle school team.

Babb's football career started at the age of nine and he went on to play for Central High School, the University of Alabama, and the Indoor Football League.

Babb has helped numerous youth from six years of age to college athletes reach their full potential in their specific sport. In 2007, he was the wide receiver coach for Madison Academy where he helped develop Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews into becoming the number one wide receiver in the area as a sophomore. He also helped four receivers to be ranked in the top 12 with 20+ catches.

"Coach Babb helped me become the player that I wanted to be at a very young age and helped me grow to be able to be a potential college player and even on to the pros," Mathews said. "I feel like this camp will help any kid that wants to participate in it become a better football player. He'll show you all the fine tuning to be able to be a great player and great leader for your team."

The Joel Babb Skills Camp is brought to you by The Weigh Out, a sports performance, health, and fitness company whose mission is dedicated to helping young athletes enhance athletic performance.
