Female Battalion Chief dismissed in Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus' first female Battalion Chief will soon find herself out of a job.

City officials say Janice Bruner was under a two week investigation.

It stemmed from an Easter day incident where Bruner falsely reported about responding to a fire on Warm Springs Road.

Bruner was given a 5-day termination letter earlier this week.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson says Bruner responded to that letter and her response is under review by the city attorney and fire chief.

Officials say the investigation is closed and Bruner will have the opportunity to resign.

Bruner is on administrative leave right now.
