Retired plumber lines up $306K windfall in West Point

WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) - A retired master plumber is welcoming a prize worth thousands from the Georgia Lottery.

Robert Johnson, 72, matched all five numbers from the Fantasy 5 drawing on April 30, winning the $306,793 jackpot prize.

Johnson selected his own lucky numbers, purchasing his ticket at West Point Shell, 1860 Ga. Highway 18 in West Point.

Winning numbers from the April 30 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 1-4-7-14-19.

A Montgomery, Ala., resident, Johnson discovered that he'd won while on the Georgia Lottery's website.

"I've been a bridesmaid but not a bride," Johnson quipped. "I've finally got a winner!"

The lucky winner and his wife, Evelena, have an adult daughter and three grandchildren.

"I'm going to divvy it up among the family," Johnson said of his windfall.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
