Gainey Cup 2015 winners announced as competition ends

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - A worldwide event which puts Scout Squads from across the military through a three-day competition started on Tuesday at Fort Benning and ended just before noon on Friday.

The Gainey Cup competition is prestigious and people compete to find out who's the best. There were 19 including one team from Canada are at Ft. Benning to show what they've got.

The winners are as follows:

  • First place: 4-2 CAV Regiment
  • Second place: 1-75 CAV, 101st Airborn Division (Air Assault)
  • Third place: 3-15 Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division

Organizers say it's all about team effort.

"It's all about being together and accomplish the mission together. My dad, God rest his soul, told me you stand alone and you are alone. If you have a group around you that you trust, you can conquer the world," William Gainey said, Ret. Comm. Sgt. Maj. in the U.S. Army

The competition wasn't easy - the competition lasted for 75 hours in 12 events with limited food, no planned sleep and it's physically and mentally demanding.
