COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A local judge is being honored posthumously for his decades of service.
A ceremony was held Wednesday for the unveiling of a portrait for Russell County Judge George R. Greene.
He served on the bench for more than 30 years, and Judge Greene passed away last year.
The portrait will hang in the Russell County Judicial Center.
We spoke with Nolan Pitts, the Phenix City artist who painted the portrait.
"Judge Bellamy, he gave me a rough picture reference," Pitts said. "Judge Greene did not take many photos. I had to take that and put together a good compositional likeness, to capture the true essence of who he was."
Pitts says it took him about three weeks to complete the portrait.
Judge Greene's family was also at Wednesday's ceremony and was recognized as well.
