COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Girls Inc. hosted their second annual Strong, Smart and Bold luncheon on Thursday.
The event was aimed at creating awareness in the community and raising money to support programs.
The nonprofit organization mentors, guides and supports thousands of girls across the country, and inspires them to be strong, smart and bold.
The fundraising efforts will go toward funding math, science, finance, sports arts, theatre, conflict resolution and nutrition programs.
Liz Murray, author of Breaking Night, and whose life story became a lifetime movie entitled From Homeless to Harvard, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon. Murray experienced poverty-induced homelessness, but she didn't give up hope.
The luncheon started at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Luke Ministry Center.
