Trial date set in Steve Toms murder case

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The trial of the man accused in the 2011 murder of a Columbus jewelry store manager is set to begin at the start of next month.

Michael Johnson faces a felony murder charge in connection to the 2011 death of Columbus Gold & Silver Trading Center manager Steve Toms.

Pre-trial motions will begin May 21 at 9:30 a.m. and the trial will begin June 1 at 9 a.m.

Johnson and five co-defendants are also charged in connection to a string of other robberies across the area.

They face a total of 24 charges collectively.
