Small Business Week celebrates impact on community

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It's Small Business Week, and people are taking time to celebrate local small businesses and the positive impact they make on the region.

On Tuesday morning, local business owners were honored with a breakfast at Columbus State University's Cunningham Center.

Columbus Fire and Safety was given the "Small Business of the Week" award.

"We're here this week to celebrate small business and all that they bring to the community," said Colby Cardin, a commercial banker at CB&T. "You've heard all the statistics about all things small businesses does and not for the community but we're here to celebrate their passion and their energy and their courage and all the things that make them so special."

The guest speakers at the breakfast were John Teeples and Reggie Luther, winners of the 2014 Visionary Award.

There are also events happening each day this week, ending with Go Local Day on Friday when people are encouraged to spend the day shopping and dining locally.
