Calvary Christian honors officers with Law Appreciation Day

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It was the first event of its kind at Calvary Christian School in Columbus.

On Tuesday, May 12 the school held Law Enforcement Awareness and Appreciation Day.

Different branches of law enforcement showed up to the event – some even flew in by helicopter or arrived in a boat.

Students were able to sit inside the patrol cars and helicopter and interact with the law officers.

Organizers say they want students to see the 'human side' of law enforcement.

"There are a lot heroes today but I can't think of a better one than a man or a woman who's gonna lay there like a save every single day," said Dr. Rick Smith, headmaster of Calvary Christian School. "So I'm hoping the kids little kids maybe they're less intimidated when I see an officer and they can recognize that somebody that always there to keep me safe."

Cavalry Christian School also showed their appreciation to law enforcement by providing lunch.
