COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A construction project that caused a traffic detour in North Columbus is complete and roads reopened Thursday morning.
Whittlesey Road between Bradley Park Drive and Whitesville Road reopened to traffic around 8:30 a.m. after construction workers finished the project two weeks early.
The project was just one phase of a larger effort to widen Whittlesey Road.
Columbus Planning Department Coordinator Felton Grant Highway Coordinator says they took advantage of an opportunity to install a larger drainage pipe to alleviate some flooding problems in that area.
Grant says it's not often that a project like this finishes ahead of schedule and this one wasn't without its challenges. Bad weather plagued the project but crews were able to work through it.
The entire project should be complete by November or the end of the year at the latest.
