Man arrested following shooting on Burnside Drive

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – On Thursday, May 14 around 2:20 p.m. the Columbus police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Burnside Drive regarding a person being shot.

Once they arrived, they discovered a male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The Robbery and Assault Unit was requested to the scene to assume the investigation.

According to police, the investigation revealed that three black males came to the residence in a grey Ford Escape. A few minutes later, the Columbus Police Department Motor Squad Unit attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Buena Vista Road and Parkchester Drive.

The vehicle was occupied by three black males and they fled from the car following a traffic stop. The motor unit was able to apprehend one of the occupants, but they were unsuccessful in finding the other two occupants.

A handgun was found inside of the Ford Escape and this investigation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Robert Darius Scott. He has been charged with aggravated assault.

Police are still looking for the other two occupants and witnesses described one of them as a light skinned black male, in his 20's, approximately 160 pounds and was wearing a black and white shirt with lines in it.

The victim is now listed in critical condition. This is an ongoing investigation and hopefully more arrests will follow.
