St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School appoints new high school principal

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School announced Monday the appointment of Veronica "Ronie" Collins to the position of High School Principal, effective July 1.

"Ms. Collins is the unanimous choice for the job after an extensive search conducted by St. Anne Catholic Church, in conjunction with the Diocese of Savannah's Office of Catholic Schools," said St. Anne Catholic Church Pastor Fr. Jeremiah McCarthy.

The news follows the announcement in March that current St. Anne-Pacelli High School Principal Mrs. Kristin Turner would be assuming her former position as High School Counselor at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.

"I am grateful for Mrs. Turner's dedication and commitment to our students in her role as High School Principal over the last seven years," Fr. McCarthy said. "I know she will continue to inspire students to achieve academic excellence."

Collins has been employed with the Muscogee County School District since August 1983. She graduated from Pacelli High School in 1979, and holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Columbus State University and an education specialist degree in Administration Supervision from Troy State University.

Prior to becoming Chief Academic Officer for the Muscogee County School District in 2012, Collins was Principal at Britt David Magnet Academy for 11 years.

A member of the Columbus State University Education Hall of Fame, Ms. Collins came to Britt David after serving as Principal at Johnson Elementary.

She is a former teacher at Britt David Magnet Academy and was the J.D. Davis Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1984.

She has served as an Assistant Principal at both Britt David Magnet Academy and St. Mary's Road Elementary. During her time at Britt David Magnet Academy, the school won numerous state awards.

"This is an exciting time for our school community to welcome back one of our own graduates," Fr. McCarthy noted. "Ms. Collins' vast experience in education – both in the schools she has served and in administration – will be a wonderful asset to her at St. Anne-Pacelli. I ask you to join me in offering prayerful best wishes and a warm ‘Viking' welcome to Veronica ‘Ronie' Collins as she begins her role as High School Principal at St. Anne-Pacelli."
