Smiths Station firefighters receive pet oxygen masks

(WTVM) - A local business is taking steps to make sure firefighters have the tools they need to save pets during a rescue.

On Tuesday Lisa Carter honored Smiths Station Firefighter Jessica Stone who saved a dog last year during a house fire.

Carter, owner of Dingleberry's Pet Waste Removal, also donated three pet oxygen masks to Station 1 in Smiths Station. The masks will be kept on a ladder truck and can be used on dogs, cats and birds.

Carter says it's important we do not forget about our pets when disaster strikes.

"They have become like our children," Carter said. "It's a trend now where people are getting more pets and not only are they getting them, but they are loving them more."

Carter hopes to get pet oxygen mask at every fire station in Lee and Russell counties.
